Description
The Memorable project aims to foster a dementia-friendly society by training volunteers, (in)formal caregivers, artists, and cultural stakeholders to make cultural institutions accommodating for people with dementia. It will develop educational materials to raise awareness and provide skills for creating dementia-friendly cultural spaces.
From the literature (Strohmaier et al., 202, Zeilig et al., 2014, it is known that arts-based interactions with people with dementia have positive effects on specific aspects of wellbeing. This also strongly connects to the „UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030)“ launched in December 2020. It states that social exclusion – in the same way as discrimination and ageism – can have significant negative effects on the health and well-being of older people. The Memorable project will help to give people ownership of their health outcomes and build on harnessing existing resources in the community, such as the existing museums, theatres, cultural and artificial expression opportunities. This community approach improves the social inclusion of people with dementia and their loved ones.
