AFEdemy role in the project:

AFEdemy’s task in the project is to co-develop a proposal for the subject of geriatrics and gerontology programme within nursing studies. This is the third activity of Work Package 2, which will be created in coorporation with THUAS.

The aim of Work Package 2 is to identify the needs and shortcomings of nursing studies in the field of geriatrics and gerontology, define recommendations for improvement, and develop a proposal for a new geriatrics and gerontology programme as part of nursing studies in 4 EU countries. This document will contain subject objectives, content and topics, learning outcomes, monitoring and assessment methods for student work, points value, teaching methods – the number of hours of theoretical and practical teaching, and the methodology of theoretical and practical teaching.

Description

With Europe’s ageing population creating a growing demand for specialised care, the AGE-MEDU project responds to the shortage of nurses trained in gerontology and geriatrics. By modernising curricula, incorporating innovative digital tools and promoting sustainability, the project ensures that nursing education aligns with the needs of the labour market and prepares future nurses to provide high-quality care for older adults, especially those with complex diseases such as dementia.

The main outcomes of AGE-MEDU include research into the needs and gaps of nursing studies in geriatrics and gerontology, policy recommendations for curriculum improvements, the creation of a new nursing programme and the development of digital educational materials for students, teachers and healthcare providers. A VR platform will be developed to offer immersive, scenario-based training, and online workshops will be held to improve the digital competences of teachers and external lecturers.
