On 29 April 2023 the TV programme “My passport is lying” hosted the Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson to discuss ageism in the labour market. According to the statistics, 10% of retired people in Lithuania are employed, whereas the surveys show that 40% of retirees would like to work, but cannot get a job. People of pre-retirement age are pushed out of the labour market and face difficulties in finding a new job because of their age. Employers seek to replace older workers with younger ones, albeit indirectly. An example of an older-age teacher whose workload was reduced and consequently the wage lowered significantly was discussed. The topic of age harassment was also covered and actions to be taken by the discriminated person were explained.
