Art and dementia: Successful kick-off of the Memorable project

Art and dementia: Successful kick-off of the Memorable project

How are art and dementia connected?

Research has shown that art-based interactions with people with dementia have positive effects on specific aspects of wellbeing. Yet most cultural institutions do not incorporate options that are accessible and inclusive to people with dementia. Project Memorable aims to foster a dementia-friendly society by training volunteers, (in)formal caregivers, artists, and cultural stakeholders to make cultural institutions more accommodating. To this end, we will develop educational materials to raise awareness and provide skills for creating dementia-friendly cultural spaces.

The project was kicked off on the 14th and 15th of January in Sofia, Bulgaria. Partners from the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Germany, Ireland, and Portugal discussed the objectives and planning for the coming months. We are excited to start this journey and work towards a more dementia- and age-friendly society for all.
