New project AGE-MEDU: Advancing Geriatric Education for Nurses and Techs at High University

Dieuwertje van Boekel

The project AGE-MEDU has started on September 26 with an online kick-off meeting. Partners from Croatia, Greece, Portugal, and the Netherlands discussed the workplan and planning of the project.

Europe’s ageing population is driving an increasing demand for specialised care, highlighting the need for more nurses trained in gerontology and geriatrics. The AGE-MEDU project addresses this gap by modernising curricula, integrating innovative digital tools, and emphasising sustainability. This approach ensures that nursing education aligns with labour market needs and equips future healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care to older adults, particularly those managing complex conditions like dementia.

Key outcomes of AGE-MEDU include identifying the needs and gaps in geriatric and gerontology studies, providing policy recommendations for curriculum enhancements, designing a new nursing programme, and creating digital educational resources for students, educators, and healthcare professionals. The project also includes the development of a VR platform for immersive, scenario-based training and online workshops aimed at enhancing the digital skills of teachers and external lecturers.

The partners are excited to start this innovative project together. Follow our progress on www.agemedu.eu.
